On March 1st 2019, the beautiful, historic Christchurch town hall reopened in a day of splendid celebrations. We were so privileged to be a part of this special occasion, providing wedding styling for the beautiful Avon Room.

An iconic part of Christchurch’s architecture and history, the Town Hall has been closed for 8 years after suffering damage from the February 22 earthquake. After 3 years of strengthening and restoration, refurbishment and upgrades, the beautiful lady – now fully restored to her former glory – was finally reopened to the public.

29 years ago I made my first wedding bouquet for my friend Sharen who had her wedding reception here at the Christchurch Town Hall. It was such a special day for us to be invited back to assist with styling for the hall’s grand re-opening. Kim

Styling the Avon Room

With views of the Avon River, the Avon Room is one of the Town Hall’s stunning event venues, perfect for your wedding reception. We were commissioned to style this beautiful room as a mock wedding to set the scene for the grand reopening.
In designing the decor for the Avon Room, we wanted to enhance the already perfect 180 degree views from the windows, and that magnificent view of the fountain! In doing so we created layers in the room with florals at different heights, bringing the ‘garden’ indoors, whilst still reflecting the elegant setting for a wedding.

The flowers we chose have a beautiful fragrance – freesias, white lilies and David Austin style roses. The elegant theme was carried through with our custom-made perspex signage and table numbers, the gold foil menus and gold tiffany chairs.
We were excited to see the courtyard complete and guests enjoying canapés out there earlier in the afternoon, or turning it into a lounge area later in the evening. What could be nicer than a nice glass of whiskey beside that lovely fountain?

We were honoured to play a small part of welcoming this beautiful lady back to our community and want to thank all of the many people who have been involved in the journey.

The Town Hall is an integral part of Christchurch’s history and one of New Zealand’s premier performance venues. It is also a popular venue for corporate events, gala dinners, weddings, cocktail functions and other special occasions.
